Hawkeye Community College Awards American Legion of Iowa Foundation Scholarships to Area Veterans

WATERLOO–Hawkeye Community College students Taylor Chapman of Waterloo and Arden Brookman of Tripoli are each recipients of $1,000 scholarships made possible through the American Legion of Iowa Foundation.
Chapman served in the U.S. Air Force from 2013–2017 and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas, as a surgical technologist. She is enrolled in pre-Nursing program courses. Brookman served in the U.S. Army from 2007–2011 and the U.S. Army Reserves from 2011–2016. She was deployed to Iraq in 2008 and spent time in Germany and Kuwait while on active duty. She is enrolled in the Professional Photography program.
The scholarships were presented on September 21, 2017, by Bob Wenger, District III representative of the American Legion of Iowa Foundation. Founded in 1978, the foundation provides financial assistance to promote Americanism, youth programs, veterans’ rehabilitation, and community service in Iowa.
