Graduate Profile: Jess Dunagan

Jess Dunagan’s father has worked in construction for years, and he liked the idea of a career in that field. When he learned there was a high demand for workers in the Civil and Construction Engineering Technology field, it seemed like a good opportunity.
“I like being outdoors and surveying kind of encompasses that,” he said. “I like design and being able to do something with it that is actually useful to the public.”
Jess already knows his plans after graduation. A few weeks ago he was hired by WHKS & Co. in Ames. He will begin June 3, utilizing his skills in surveying and CAD that he learned at Hawkeye Community College.
“This program gives you a lot of good information, knowledge, and skills to get into the profession,” he said. “If you want to go to a four-year college later, you can. For me – financially – this is the way to go.”
