Hawkeye Community College Artist Series Set for 2013-2014 Season

WATERLOO—The Hawkeye Community College Artist Series will open its 2013–2014 season in October with a slate of diverse entertainment. The season continues the tradition and excitement of past Hawkeye Artists Series. Each performance begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Tama Hall Auditorium on the college’s main campus, located at 1501 E. Orange Road in Waterloo. Tickets are $10 each and $7 for those under 18. Hawkeye Community College students will be admitted free with a student ID card and a ticket. It is suggested that interested individuals order their tickets early as many of the performances sell out quickly. Tickets for the Artist Series performances can be ordered by calling 319-296-4464. The first performance of the season is set for Thursday, October 10, featuring Embraceable You. The music of George and Ira Gershwin is musical comedy at its finest. Embraceable You features two of today’s most talented young artists singing, dancing, and falling in love. If you like Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, and Lena Horne with a little extra modern flair and pizazz - then you’ll love Embraceable You.

On Thursday, November 21, Milwaukee’s very own The Britins will perform. This group will recreate the Beatles 1962 era that forever changed rock and roll and influenced so many top groups and artists today. Follow along on a Magical Mystery Tour of sights and sounds through that remarkable era, recreated with authentic Beatles gear and costumes.
The third show will be performed on Thursday, March 6. Sean-Paul and Juliane will present incredible magic, hilarious audience-interaction, telepathy, and the only performing stage monkey! Yes, it’s a real monkey. It’s a comical and rare experience to witness firsthand, the antics of Frankie the Monkey. This show has something for everyone. Come and enjoy innovative and original magical effects. An evening with Sean-Paul and Juliane is a truly original and memorable experience.

The final performance for this year’s line up for the Artist Series will be on Thursday, April 17. The Alley Cats–America’s premier doo-wop ensemble never misses a beat as they sing a cappella to the greatest songs of the 50s and 60s. The Alley Cats have opened for fellow nostalgic acts such as Chubby Checker, The Tokens, Sha Na Na, and Bill Medley. The Alley Cats blend music and comic timing with their own unique contemporary style, proving that doowop never goes out of style.
