On Thursday, July 25, individuals from across the state of Iowa participated in the Grundy County Every Day Tractor Ride honoring the memory of Iowa radio and TV farm broadcaster Mark Pearson. While reflecting on Mark’s untimely passing last year, Dean Borg of Iowa Public Television said it best: “Mark was a tireless advocate for agriculture and never passed up an opportunity to educate others on its importance. And he loved farming almost as much as he loved people.”
Participants included Mark's son Mike Pearson, Governor Terry Branstad, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey, Iowa Representative and Hawkeye alumnus Patrick Grassley, and many farmers from Grundy County.
As a result of the tractor ride and the funds raised, three high school graduates were recognized for their plans to pursue college degrees in agriculture and were awarded scholarships.
Maranda Crotty will be a freshman at Hawkeye Community College this Fall majoring in Agricultural Business Management. She has been interested in agriculture since she was very young and is excited to explore and learn more. She is a graduate of Dike-New Hartford High School.
