Jeremy Minnier isn't like most college students. In 2011, as a high school senior, he was elected as the mayor of Aredale, Iowa. At the age of 18, Jeremy was one of the youngest serving mayors in the nation. He just completed his term and didn’t seek re-election. Even though he didn’t run for a second term, he does have plans to stay involved in his community. Jeremy is currently a Horticulture Science student at Hawkeye Community College and will graduate in May.

On Wednesday, January 8, Jeremy was invited to speak to this year’s class of the Cedar Valley Leadership Institute. Along with Waterloo Mayor Buck Clark, he spoke about leadership in city, county, and state governments.

The Cedar Valley Leadership Institute is a professional development series designed for business members who want to develop and strengthen their leadership skills within the community. Monthly sessions focus on a variety of topics including community volunteering, diversity, and economic development in the Cedar Valley. The Institute is offered by the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance and Chamber.
