Transferring BEFORE you complete the Associate of Arts degree at HawkeyeIt may be in your best interest to transfer to the University of Iowa before you complete the Associate of Arts degree at Hawkeye. If you transfer to the University of Iowa without completing the Associate of Arts degree you will need to complete: Transferring AFTER you have completed the Associate of Arts degree at HawkeyeStudents who have completed the Associate of Arts degree from Hawkeye will have completed all general education requirements for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with the exception of the Foreign Language requirement. Foreign Language General Education RequirementYou are required to complete the Foreign Language requirement for the College of Business if you have not: - earned an Associate of Arts degree,
- graduated high school between 1985-1991 and have at least 24 credit hours or more earned, or
- graduated high school prior to 1985.
Students may be admitted without this requirement on a conditional basis. To fulfill the Foreign Language requirement you must: - complete two years of a foreign language in high school, OR
- complete two semesters of a foreign language in college, AND
- complete intermediate courses of the same foreign language at Iowa.

You must complete both BIO112 and BIO113 at Hawkeye to receive credit for 2:10 Principles of Biology I and 2:11 Principles of Biology II at the University of Iowa. -
While this Biology sequence has been approved to satisfy 2:10 Principles of Biology I and 2:11 Principles of Biology II at the University of Iowa for all pre-professional and related science programs, those choosing to major specifically in Biology at the University of Iowa will need to meet individually with the Department advisor to determine preparation before advancing to higher level Biology courses. Math and Science Sequence Notes -
If you start a math or science sequence it is strongly recommended to complete the sequence at the same college. Whenever possible, math and science sequences should not be split between two different colleges. -
If you need to complete preparatory work in mathematics, you should complete extra electives at Hawkeye due to the transfer of lower level Algebra classes. You will not receive credit for MAT102 Intermediate Algebra or MAT122 College Algebra. College of Dentistry Admission RequirementsApplicants to the College of Dentistry must have: -
completed the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) application. Please note and pay attention to application deadlines. -
a competitive cumulative GPA and Science GPA of 3.2 - 4.0 (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math). -
completed the Organic Chemistry sequence at the University of Iowa 4:121 AND 4:122 AND 4:141 | OR | 4:123 AND 4:124 AND 4:142 | You can also take the following courses at Hawkeye to transfer towards the pre-professional curriculum at the University of Iowa: College of Medicine Admission RequirementsTo be admitted to the College of Medicine you must: -
complete an undergraduate degree with pre-professional curriculum -
have competitive scores on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). You should take the MCAT in spring prior to last year of undergraduate work. -
have an extremely competitive cumulative and Science GPA’s. A 2.5 GPA is required, but a 3.4 - 4.0 is recommended. -
have completed the Organic Chemistry sequence at the University of Iowa 4:121 AND 4:122 AND 4:141 | OR | 4:123 AND 4:124 AND 4:142 | -
file an application through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). Apply early. Talk to your advisor at the University of Iowa about deadlines. Physical Therapy Admission RequirementsThe Physical Therapy Program is a two and a half year program and includes Summer Semesters. To be admitted, you must have: -
a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and a 3.0 GPA or above in all prerequisites required. -
have taken the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and have scores of 1000 or better (Verbal and Quantitative combined). -
completed upper division Biology at the University of Iowa. You can also take the following courses at Hawkeye to transfer towards the pre-professional curriculum at the University of Iowa: -

Physician's Assistant Admission RequirementsThe Physician’s Assistant program is a 25 month Master of Arts program at the University Iowa. To be admitted to the Physician's Assistant program, you must: -
complete an undergraduate degree with pre-professional curriculum. Physics is not required for the Physician's Assistant program, but is recommended. -
complete the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) early enough to be submitted by application deadline. -
complete Organic Chemistry and upper division prerequisites in biology or zoology at the University of Iowa. -
have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and a 3.0 GPA or above in all prerequisite course work. -
have a minimum six months of health care or research experience. MAT156 Statistical Methods may be recommended to prepare for Statistics at the University Iowa. Apply early. Talk to your advisor at the University of Iowa about deadlines. |
