Liberal Arts AA and AS Degrees

Emphasis Area - Sociology and Social Services

Regardless of your career plans, a degree in Sociology will help you gain skills in critical thinking, research methods, understanding the way that society works and the relationship between individuals and the societies in which we live.

If you are interested in completing a bachelor’s degree in this emphasis you should consider taking 12 credit hours from the courses listed below as part of your AA degree in Liberal Arts.

Not all courses may be required for your future major.

Consult with an advisor in Student Services or a faculty advisor to select courses, make a transfer plan, and periodically review your progress towards your degree completion.

Career Opportunities

A degree in Sociology prepares students for careers in a variety of fields such as:

  • case management
  • corrections
  • public relations
  • public administration
  • non-profit management

  • policy

In addition, some graduates continue on to graduate or professional school, eventually earning an MA/MS, PhD, MBA, or JD.
