Online Liberal Arts - AA Degree
Earn your Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Liberal Arts completely online. The Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Liberal Arts is primarily a general education degree designed for students who want to transfer to a four-year college. Hawkeye’s courses are articulated with Iowa’s Regent universities. Students earning an Associate of Arts degree will meet most general education requirements when they transfer and will be admitted with junior status. Work closely with an academic advisor at Hawkeye and the transfer college or university you plan to attend to ensure all courses transfer seamlessly. Students apply to the Liberal Arts - AA degree and can complete all their coursework online. This degree requires a total of 62 credit hours with a minimum of 40 credit hours of liberal arts core credits and the remaining 22 hours as college electives. Up to 16 credit hours of technical courses can be counted toward the 22 hours of electives. Program OutcomesStudents taking liberal arts courses at Hawkeye are not only equipped with a strong foundation for most programs offered by four-year colleges or universities, but they are also able to develop attitudes, values, and skills that will allow them to become constructive adults, both individually and within their communities. Students receiving an Associate of Arts degree from Hawkeye will have developed the following skills: -
Communication: Students will develop speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills. -
Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Students will acquire, evaluate, and analyze information; develop sound reasoning skills; and apply the principles of the scientific method. -
Quantitative Reasoning: Students will develop skills in problem-solving, logical thinking, and application of mathematical processes. -
Community and Global Awareness: Students will recognize and appreciate diversity, historical viewpoints, and the global perspective. -
Individual Development: Students will cultivate ethical values, personal wellness, and personal learning strategies. -
Artistic Expression: Students will acquire a global and cultural understanding of the role of the arts, instilling the personal curiosity and skills for creative expression and endeavors. -
