Training for Interior Designers
The Interior Design program prepares students to plan the spaces in which people live and work. The main focus of the interior designer is to establish client needs, preferences, and budget in the selection of furniture, materials, colors, and lighting. Interior designers draw upon many disciplines to enhance the health, safety, and welfare of interior spaces. They prepare presentation boards and business documents as they coordinate the project through completion.
Experience and Training
The curriculum is developed with the guidance of a strong advisory committee composed of professional interior designers. Students have the opportunity to work in a professional interior design setting through their internship.
Hawkeye Community College has articulation agreements with Upper Iowa University and Mount Mercy University allowing graduates to enter with junior status. The Iowa Regent universities accept a limited number of transfer and elective credits. Articulation agreements may assist graduates in transferring additional credits.
