Many of these appear as full-text sources that you can print to your local printer.   • Encyclopedia Britannica: Encyclopedia Britannica Online includes the complete encyclopedia, as well as Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and the Britannica Book of the Year. You can also use Encyclopedia Britannica Online to search an Internet directory that includes more than 130,000 links to Web sites selected, rated, and reviewed by Britannica editors.

The Gale Virtual Reference Library includes online academic encyclopedias and reference works on a wide variety of subjects and disciplines.

Hawkeye Community College Book and Video Catalog

Hawkeye Community College Library is a member of the Cedar Valley Library Consortium. Member libraries share a single catalog system for their collections. The catalog can be searched as a comprehensive listing of the libraries' joint collections, or it can be searched by individual library name. No user name or password is required.

LexisNexis Academic *

Provides full-text documents from over 6,000 news, business, legal, medical, and reference publications, including The New York Times (dating back to 1980) and The Washington Post (dating back to 1977). Business and financial news, and U.S. and international company financial information are available from private and government sources. Primary source material such as case law, statutes, and regulations or secondary source materials such as legal news or law reviews provide background or analysis of legal topics. Reference materials include Gallup polls and surveys.

MICROMEDEX HealthCare Series features in-depth information on diseases, drugs, labs, and toxicology. Comparative drug summaries, drug interaction, and drug identification by physical characteristics are among the included databases.

A second MICROMEDEX database, The CareNotes System, provides over 5000 customizable and printable patient education documents on a wide range of topics and over a variety of care levels (pre-care, inpatient, discharge, after-care.) CareNotes are also available in both English and Spanish.

  • World Almanac: Search four almanacs and the Funk & Wagnalls New Encyclopedia.

  • WorldCat: WorldCat lists books and other materials found in thousands of libraries worldwide. It contains descriptions of materials dating from before 1000 B.C. to the present. It is often used to identify resources to request via interlibrary loan. WorldCat also provides access to over 105,000 high quality web sites on a variety of subjects.

Oxford Islamic Studies Online

The Oxford Islamic Studies Online database is provided as part of the Bridging Cultures – Muslim Journeys grant from National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association, and will be available until Feb. 28, 2014.
