CQ Press: State Stats*

CQ Press: State Stats* features current and historical statistics for all 50 states and the District of Columbia on popular topics of research interest. Numerous topics are covered in categories including: agriculture, crime and law enforcement, defense, demographics, economics, education, employment and labor, geography, energy, and the environment, health and medicine, social welfare, taxes and government finance, teaching and education, and transportation. Data is compiled from more than 80 different government and non-government sources and compiled by CQ Press and presented in an intuitive interface that lets users share, save and export data tables.

Published in print and online 44 times a year, each single-themed CQ Researcher report offers in-depth, non-biased coverage of political and social issues, with regular reports on topics in health, international affairs, education, the environment, technology and the U.S. economy. Reports include: a background and chronology; an assessment of the current situation; tables and maps; pro/con statements from representatives of opposing positions; and bibliographies of key sources. Database also includes monthly issues of CQ Global Researcher.

EBSCOhost provides access to online magazine/journal/newspaper databases with indexing for several thousand magazine/journal/newspaper titles. Many of these appear as full-text sources that you can print to your local printer.   • Encyclopedia Britannica: Encyclopedia Britannica Online includes the complete encyclopedia, as well as Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and the Britannica Book of the Year. You can also use Encyclopedia Britannica Online to search an Internet directory that includes more than 130,000 links to Web sites selected, rated, and reviewed by Britannica editors.

The Gale Virtual Reference Library includes online academic encyclopedias and reference works on a wide variety of subjects and disciplines.

Hawkeye Community College Book and Video Catalog

Hawkeye Community College Library is a member of the Cedar Valley Library Consortium. Member libraries share a single catalog system for their collections. The catalog can be searched as a comprehensive listing of the libraries' joint collections, or it can be searched by individual library name. No user name or password is required.

Provides full-text documents from over 6,000 news, business, legal, medical, and reference publications, including The New York Times (dating back to 1980) and The Washington Post (dating back to 1977). Business and financial news, and U.S. and international company financial information are available from private and government sources. Primary source material such as case law, statutes, and regulations or secondary source materials such as legal news or law reviews provide background or analysis of legal topics. Reference materials include Gallup polls and surveys.

Mango Languages* provides 24/7 online access to 60+ languages and 17 ESL courses. Learn at your own pace from any computer or mobile device with Internet. MICROMEDEX *

MICROMEDEX HealthCare Series features in-depth information on diseases, drugs, labs, and toxicology. Comparative drug summaries, drug interaction, and drug identification by physical characteristics are among the included databases.

A second MICROMEDEX database, The CareNotes System, provides over 5000 customizable and printable patient education documents on a wide range of topics and over a variety of care levels (pre-care, inpatient, discharge, after-care.) CareNotes are also available in both English and Spanish.

  • World Almanac: Search four almanacs and the Funk & Wagnalls New Encyclopedia.

  • WorldCat: WorldCat lists books and other materials found in thousands of libraries worldwide. It contains descriptions of materials dating from before 1000 B.C. to the present. It is often used to identify resources to request via interlibrary loan. WorldCat also provides access to over 105,000 high quality web sites on a variety of subjects.

The titles in the Sharpe Online: U.S. & Global History & Culture* collection offer a unique, interdisciplinary approach to U.S. History & Culture, focusing on the broad range of cultural, social, economic, and political issues; people; and events that have shaped American history. Also included is the The Native Peoples of the World reference serves as a primer about the world’s indigenous societies and as a ready-reference for historical and contemporary information on nearly 400 specific groups (organized by region), 80 nations, and 50 contemporary issues and institutions.
